#nad 2023: Celebrating Differences – Humanising Cities!
This year’s NAD was a true celebration of values and citizenship where organizations and activists from across the country came together to celebrate inclusiveness and community, united despite differences. In this 6th year of NAD we celebrated the tireless work and dedication of activists in the field of protecting the rights of people with different abilities.
NAD this year was celebrated as part of the “American Week” on October 11, 2023. The opening ceremony was greeted by the Chargé d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Tirana, Mr. David Wisner, and the Minister of Culture, Mrs. Elva Margariti. The guest of honor, the well-known Hollywood actor and activist “RJ Mitte”, shared with the participants his personal story and how determination and will have helped him move forward in the field of art and philanthropy. During the ceremony, 5 awards were given to honor the work and achievements of activists: Mr. Zela Koka from the MEDPAK organization, Swimming Champion Gersi Troka, National Association of the Deaf, Mr. Suela Lala from the organization ‘Together’, as well as the OAZ Foundation.
The celebrations continued at the Activism Fair in Tirana, which this year brought together over 50 organizations from all over the country, showed practical aspects of their work in promoting the rights of people with different abilities.
This is the sixth year of the “National Activism Day” and during the last 5 years over 160 local organizations, activists, as well as well-known actors within the civil society scene have participated through practical actions, organized in Albania or as participation in civil society fairs in Tirana.
“National Activism Day”, known as #NAD is a day dedicated to civic activism of all forms and happening all over the country. It is organized by Co-PLAN, the Institute for Habitat Development in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States of America in Tirana.
